This picture show me a man who has a strong power.This person looks like a leader because he is so solemnity.Maybe he is a important character in a world.He wears a white shirt and a big coat like a scientist.He has a ringlet,abstruse eyes maybe he is a hero in a country.His eyes are looking at something,I think he want to explore something that can make his country more and more stronger.He looks like a winkle when I saw this picture. The man who is in this picture maybe he is a famous person that all the people know him.

Samuel De Champlain was a French explorer,Cartographer and navigator born in Brouage,Saintonge.He is the founder of Quebec City.He was known as"The Father of Canada".
His nationality is French.
His family's background; indeed, though he wrote much, little personal information of Champlain's life is known. It is known, however, that Champlain learned the ways of the sea from his uncle.Franch is a part of Canada so he is a exploration who is important to Canada.
2. What is his relationship with Canada? Why is he important to Canada?

He explored so many eastern Canada and became the father of New France.He was Quebec City's and New France's Governor.He went to Canada and made a accurate map of Canada from Hudson Bay in the north down to the Great Lakes, and he found a settlement and trading post along the St. Lawrence River that eventually became the city of Quebec. It was the first permanent white settlement in Canada, which makes Quebec the oldest city in Canada and he is the founder of Quebec City.
3. When did he explore? What was happening during history at this time?

In 1603, he went to Canada to have his first voyage. Champlain sailed to France on Francois Grave Du Pont's expedition.He and his friends,they sailed up the St. Lawrence River and the Saguenay River, they also explored the Gaspe Peninsula. He returned to France in 1603, and decided to search for a Northwest Passage and to settle the Gaspe Peninsula. He is an important character in Canada and he is famous for his exploration.

He visited many of the islands, landed at Vera Cruz, proceeded inland as far as the city of Mexico, and returned by way of Panama, where he conceived the plan of a ship-canal across the isthmus, reaching Spain in March, 1601.
He explored Gulf of St. Lawrence on 1603.Then he explored into the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers where besides Quebec City. They also explored misty Gaspe' Peninsula of Quebec. In 1605 he explored much of the coast of Nova Scotia. He explored much of upstate New York and parts of Ontario and eastern Michigan in 1815. He did lots of voyage.
5. Why did he explore? What were his reasons for exploration?
Because as a boy he learned how to navigate ships, and became a naval captain, like his father.
I think he is interested in explorating.He was looking for north west passage to canada,because he wanted to find more land.Samuel Champlain did not study Ancient Greek or Latin, neither did he read ancient literature. He instead learned to navigate, draw, and make marine maps. From 1595 to 1598, he served into the royal army in Bretagne, first as a fourrier (feeding and cleaning horses).
6. How did he explore? What transportation methods did he use?
He is a successful exploration and he used sail to have exploration that I think. In 1603, he sailed to France on Francois Grave Du Pont's expedition. From 1604-1607 he sailed to Nova Scotia.He went to explore with lots of sailores. I think they are the brave person that he and his friends finished the explore. He is "the Father of Canada",so he did a huge job for Canada.I think he not only a brave man but also is a successful man that almost people admire him.He is a hero in people's heart.

From this picture people can see he is a really hero.He is a solemnity man I can find that when he take this picture,he is a little old.He did a huge job for his country and Canada.He is an important character for France that I think.He not only an explore but also a successful man.
